Brownstone Restoration

Brownstone is a natural soft, sedimentary stone that was formed by build-up layers, which are called grain.

Brownstone absorbs water from the rain, if water freezes, it causes the stone to expand and flake off.  To prevent damage to these properties the best idea is maintenance. Regular attention to ordinary maintenance and minor repairs will help on the long run.

Chimney Services

The best way to prevent moisture from rain and snow, animals, leaves, and other debris from entering your chimney is to install a chimney cap.

Rain and Animal-Proof Chimney Caps

The best preventative measures that you can take to secure your home from animals is to cap your chimney. An uncapped chimney is an open invitation for an animal. Albert Park installs both standard size and custom stainless-steel chimney caps. They are more than strong enough to keep raccoons out and fit tightly to prevent bats from getting through. They are also very reasonably priced.

Squirrels: Most of the time when a squirrel falls into a chimney it is stuck there. You will hear scampering inside your fireplace and   scratching noises on the damper.

Bats: Just like squirrels, when a bat falls into a chimney it is stuck. Bats cannot hover like a helicopter. They fly straight and they crawl. Bats will usually squeeze by the damper (even when it's shut) and end up flying around your living room.

Raccoons: Raccoons hardly ever get stuck in chimneys. They are great climbers and they can scale any type of flu with ease. Once inside a chimney, a raccoon will set up shop and make themselves at home. You will hear all types of noises and it only takes a few days for a strong odor to develop from the urine and feces that they leave behind.

Protect Your Chimney From Water Damage

Besides preventing animals from entering your chimney a good chimney cap also stops water from entering. Without a cap rain and snow fall directly into your chimney. This will deteriorate your chimney from the inside out and end up costing you 20-30 times as much as a chimney cap. All this can be avoided by having a chimney cap installed!

Flaking Bricks

Also known as spalling, can be caused by moisture problems. Let us help you determine the best course of action to take to help prevent further deterioration.

Crown Repair

Crown is the concrete-like surface at the top of your chimney. Its job is to shed water away from the flue and also keep water from entering the chimney chase. Cracks or missing pieces in the crown can lead to extensive water damage in your chimney.

Flashing Repair

The flashing is a barrier between the chimney and roofline that is made of metal. The flashing prevents water from penetrating this joint and leaking into the house.

Tuckpointing & Rebuilding

Your chimney takes a lot of abuse from the weather and you might find that the mortar has chipped, cracked or worn and needs replacing. We grind all the joints back one half inch and replace with new mortar and strike it accordingly. If needed we will also finish with an acid wash.
